Yo! I'm Mike.

Just another twenty-something software nut.

I've been hacking on code since I was a wee lad. My first real web development experience (beyond Geocities) fell into my lap while I was a young teen working as a mechanic at the local bike shop. Since spinning up that first site for Shane's Schwinn, I've been enamored with all things on the net.

If you ask me what I'm passionate about, I'll likely rant about one of a few things (in no particular order):

  • Which pieces of Agile/Scrum/XP can work for you (if any)
  • Python (and advantages of dynamic languages)
  • Automated testing and TDD (and why awesome unit tests are an absolute must for dynamic languages)
  • Javascript frameworks (Dojo, jquery, etc)
  • RESTful web services
  • Improving the culture of corporate software shops
  • Advantages of DVCS for particular projects (but why it adds more heartache and pain to others)
  • Web security

Oh, and I do lots of stuff other than code! I'm usually in the great outdoors somewhere regardless of the weather. Mountain biking, running, rock climbing, hiking, orienteering, snowboarding -- I haven't found too many activities that I don't get excited about.

I'm very happily employed at DRB Systems, Inc., but will occasionally entertain some freelance work. If you care to get in touch, you can find me online:
